Force 1920 1080 resolution?

What is the easiest way to force 1920 1080 resolution? I know I could problably edit xorg conf files but something simple and quick?

If you're not getting the resolution that you expect then you either have a hardware issue (like bad cable) or your monitor is not returning the correct EDID information when queried or you do not have a driver installed for your video card. Usually attempts to force a resolution in these cases will fail so it is better to address the underlying issue first. What video card? What driver does it currently use?
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
Info for USB installs on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

xrandr should show you available resolutions.
