CentOS

Hi, I'm very new to CentOS and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm trying to install **, but I don't have one what I'm doing.

I'm wondering do I just install CentOS, then follow the given steps? I'm aware I need an VPS (I do have one).

Any guide that contains the instructions to disable selinux is not one you want to follow. It's a bit like a Windows admin recommending that you disable UAC and the windows firewall and run without AV protection...

Did you realize that the setup instructions tell you to turn off the firewall completely, too? It's really unbelievable... Personally I would refuse to install that stuff and strongly recommend not following that installation setup.

Just an FYI - I have seen quite a few applications that require you to put SElinux into permissive mode (vastly different from disabling it), and then putting it back into enforced mode after. But even those instance are few and far between, and tend to be special purpose applications that few people will come across.

Yes, for example in the past it was necessary to put SELinux into permissive mode temporarily for the time during oVirt installation. But this is totally different to what the Puffer Panel install instructions do, they turn SELinux to permissive mode permanently.

When you get a VPS, they should have some way for you to select OS, and it will install the OS for you.

After that is done.
I suggest, Disabling root login, increasing the SSH key size, Create Admin user and login, Give them sudo permissions, test root permissions on the new user, verifing you are able to login with the new user, and make sure you can sudo su, then loggin out as root, edit the login/motd banner, Creating Groups, Creating Users, configure firewall rules, BACKUP, restart the firewall, verify everything is operating properly. Then there is some more but I can't remember it at the moment.
