Migrating the centos 5.8 to Centos 7
Re: Migrating the centos 5.8 to Centos 7
There is no migration from el5 to el7. It's backup and reinstall then restore. Even the update from el6 to el7 is extremely problematic and only works for very basic installs.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

Hello golden3.
As stated by TrevorH, there is no straightforward approach to upgrade from CentOS 5 to CentOS 7.
You'll have to backup everything you need like:
- Cron jobs
- Scripts
- Home directories
- Mail files
- Configuration files
- Firewall rules
- Any other specifics like databases, PHP files, etc.
Or just backup the whole server.
Then you'll have to format it and install CentOS 7 and after that restore from backup and make the necessary changes so everything works as expected.
You might want to look for an experienced system administrator to do this right.
Good luck!

Re: Migrating the centos 5.8 to Centos 7
we have 200 hundred clients in office, This method is not possible anything we can do on Centos -repo or mirroring option on it ?
So that we could proceed in one machine and migrate to centos 7
If any possible ways to do the migration means we can try another method like that , thanks for your valuable concern..

Re: Migrating the centos 5.8 to Centos 7
Ouch - perhaps an off-line build of a CentOS 7 server ... for incorporation when ready?
I feel your pain, but the two operating systems are VERY different in multiple ways. The folk telling you the bad news are 'top shelf'; there really is NO way to migrate - especially that far.
Repo's/mirrors contain non-interchangeable UPDATES to given system versions. Plugging in updates for another version almost always raises he** and/or trashes the system. You really don't want to go there.
Besides, after the clean install, you're going to be busy for a while learning how to deal with 7 and all it's changes - they're not just cosmetic.
Sorry. What you have before you is truly a "bite the bullet and get it done" moment.
