CentOS 7 Installation Issue

Post by nidishady » 2014/09/22 17:40:43

Hello all...
i have already installed centOS 6.4 already and got 40GB for it...now i would like to install centOS7 and i tried to install from bootable dvd...everything is working fine but i got confused when i reached to the point of select destination option...when i click this option i found single hard drive but where have my centOS 6.4 installation drive gone?so i got confused to install centOS 7 here because i do not know whether this will take whole drive or not.
why could not i overwrite on centOS 6.4 here..how to install then?please suggest me
thank you

I't's not clear what you are asking.
CentOs 6 and 7 use different incompatible boot loaders.

"@gerald_clark "

ok....it means i have to again make another partition from my harddrive to install centOS 7,am i correct?my question is how to make that centOS 6.4 installation drive available for new fresh installation of centOS 7? Can not i delete centOS 6.4 and install centOS 7 on the same drive?
thank you for ur reply

You still have not identified a problem.
What Centos 6.4 installation drive do you think has disappeared?
What ISO did you boot?
What drives do you have attached?
What exactly do you see as a problem?

Perhaps if you run gparted and note what hard drives and what partitions you have and maybe post a screenshot we might be able to help. I think you are trying to install Centos 7 on top of Centos 6 (formatting the old root partition). Your old swap and any other partitions would remain unchanged. I think you are saying that while you are running the Centos 7 installer, you can not determine where your old root partition is.
We don't mean to sound grumpy, but we need something to go on here. Good Luck
