centos7 support 32bit?

Post by centek1 » 2014/08/23 07:53:37

Hi guys,
I have following problem...

--> Processing Dependency: webkitgtk(x86-32) for package: skype-4.3.0.37-1.el7.i686
--> Processing Dependency: libQtWebKit.so.4 for package: skype-4.3.0.37-1.el7.i686
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: skype-4.3.0.37-1.el7.i686 (epel-skype)
Requires: libQtWebKit.so.4
Error: Package: skype-4.3.0.37-1.el7.i686 (epel-skype)
Requires: webkitgtk(x86-32)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

I have qtwebkit and webkitgtk installed but only in x86_64 arch.
Epel does not have any 32bit versions available...

How to solve this issue? Am I missing something?

The nux-dextop repo also packages skype and has all its dependencies so you can just yum install it from there.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Trevor! As always thanks a lot...

but... the skype is just an example of the issue...
how we should deal with the 32bit packages on rhel7?
They are not available?

I'm not having any issues pulling all the 32-bit dependencies from the nux repo. Where did you download that skype binary from? I haven't encountered any issues so far when installing i686 packages.

I'm having problems with the lightzone application trying to find some jpeg libraries, none of my installed repos have what it is looking for (epel and nux-desktop). I think the grive tools are having the same thing, but an answer for grive was posted in another thread. Pretty sure that both of these are looking for 32bit modules and therefore can't find them.

The 32-bit build of CentOS 7 is being planned as seen here. No ETA though.

Will that allow us to run 32bit dependant applications on 64bit installs? It just seems that some of the libraries are missing in 32bit.
