Try either holding alt and then right clicking or left click and hold, then hold alt, the right click.

Not my knowledge, found using google.

Thank you for you answer but It doesn't help. I can't customize my gnome desktop panels. For example like this

http://www.techotopia.com/index.php/Con ... top_Panels

I guess, I need to install something in order to customize it.

Tried it, didn't like it much, installed MATE instead. Welcome back gnome2!
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

Yeah, I've been missing this feature too. For now I just add things to the favorites bar on the left side. Not ideal since you need to go to the upper corner to get it, but working until I find how to put those shortcuts into the wasted empty top space.

In straight Gnome Shell -- CentOS 7 defaults to a modified version using extensions -- the panel *is* locked. Visit extensions.gnome.org to see if something there is useful.

Gnome 2 and its panel, used in CentOS 6, ceased development and maintenance in 2011. The MATE project is a slight fork and modernization.
