Server - selection during Installation Centos 7

Post by rocky90 » 2014/08/16 16:02:09

Hello,

I want to install Centos7 with Server, but i am confused which option in software slection I have to select. I am a user of Centos 5.5 , during installation of 5.5 it asks for software slection and I used to select Server and gnome-desktop in the combo box, but here in Cent oS 7 installation I coulnt choose the appropriate one as i used to select in centos 5.5 , so please suggest which one i should use. I need all gnome desktop, server features to run MYSQL Server,Java EE Application etc. So by using Server and gnome desktop in Centos 5.5 my application runs perfect so I want the same equivalent choice of Server and Desktop for Installation of CentOs 7.

Select what you want.
Start with "Server with GUI" and select the addon packages you need.
Be aware that mysql-server has been replaced by mariadb-server.

C7 is a huge change from C5.
You should really read the release notes, migration guides, installation guide and adminisrtators guides at
https://access.redhat.com/documentation ... rise_Linux

Failure to read and plan ahead will result in much confusion and frustration.

Thanks for your reply! Does this "Server with GUI" includes the gnome desktop or the GUI environment?

I want to install and run an application that will install mysql ,java and other things, so do i need to include these during installation through "Server with GUI" selection?

Does CentOS 7 Supports Mysql or not ?

Please answer.

Thanks!

Mysql has been replaced by mariadb in CentOS 7. Mariadb is a fork of mysql so it's compatible.

Not sure why you'd want a GUI on a server but I'd think that "Server with GUI" as an installation choice is self-explanatory.
