Can't install /dev/root does not exist

Post by flats » 2014/08/14 13:34:43

I have COS7 on a USB stick that I sucessfully installed onto a Xenserver VM and is runnign very well. I am now trying to install it on a Dell workstation with 2 3TB drives setup as a raid 1 using the dell SAS hardware controller. I have been able to other Linux'es without a problem but I keep getting an error when COS7 starts to install. See attachment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The Raid is 3TB formatted as GPT. I tried to create a 1TB partition and leaving the rest unformatted as well.

How did you create the USB stick? The supported method is to use dd to copy the iso to the drive - e.g dd if=/path/to/.iso of=/dev/sdX (where sdX is the device name of your USB stick). If creating under windows then there are windows ports of dd or I believe that rawrite2 works as well.

The iso contains more than one method of booting depending on the hardware used. If your hardware is UEFI capable then using some methods to create the USB stick will mangle it so it is not bootable and I suspect this is your case. Read http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey
