Install Error: Call to StartServiceByName Timeout

Post by nick143 » 2014/08/14 12:22:57

Hey all.

I'm trying to install CentOS 7 on my HP Proliant DL320e Gen8 v2 server. I'm attempting this through the iLO IRC and virtual media. I'm booting 'CentOS-7.0-1406-x86_64-Minimal' and after a while (my connection to the server is slow - looks like I'm getting 60kB up) I get this error:
install_err.jpg
install_err.jpg (125.4 KiB) Viewed 1916 times
Also, on CentOS 6.5 I had to install a driver for my storage controller (B120i) - I followed these instructions: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/h ... .199480143

Will I need to do this for CentOS 7? For some reason I feel like I read somewhere that this driver may come with CentOS 7... But it if doesn't, do you think the driver I used for 6.5 would work for 7?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Nick.

I don't know what that error is but Redhat's recommended solution to the B* HP RAID controller problem is to use the BIOS to set it up in AHCI mode and then use Linux software RAID on top of the disks. It's a FakeRAID controller, not a real one.

Thanks Trevor :) I'll give software RAID a go.

Is there any other information I could provide which may help others solve my install problem?

All I can tell you about the other error is that it has something to do with NetworkManager trying to start the network connection and it timing out. Might want to doublecheck that you are using the right settings and that the various ethernet ports are enumerated in the same order that they were in older releases. Also be aware that CentOS 7 uses a nice shiny new naming scheme for network connections so it's entirely possible that what you used to believe was eth0 is now called en123456 or some other such catchy name.

Thanks for the quick reply :) Where would it be getting these settings from? I get to the 'Install CentOS 7' screen, click enter, and then after what looks like a number of tests, i.e., green 'OK's, I get this error. I do have CentOS 6.5 currently installed, but I didn't think the CentOS 7 installer would know about that. I've installed CentOS 7 on a PC at home - so I know the part where I needed to configure the network adapter... but I'm not getting to that point.

Sorry, I'm very new to all of this stuff :S All very confusing.

Thanks :)

And this server doesn't have internet access...

Is this repeatable? I don't know why it would be trying to start NetworkManager at that point. Is it possible you could try the full DVD instead of the minimal one? That's not the "Everything" DVD which is ~6GB but the DVD1 that should be self-contained (so should minimal really but...)

Repeated 3 times now.

Sure I guess I could try the DVD image - just a little concerned haha with upload rate of ~60kB/s :S But I do see where you are coming from.

I'll give it a go and get back to you with results :D

Just tried with 'CentOS-7.0-1406-x86_64-DVD' - same error. Was a good idea though :)

Any other ideas? Any 'tests' I could perform which may help? Could this be related to trying to install via virtual media? It is looking for something which is 'deeper' into the ISO - a part which hasn't been transferred to the server yet?

I'm just throwing ideas out there - I really have no idea :S

Thanks.

Nick.
