CentOS 7, Gnome3 & NX

Post by majun » 2014/07/21 14:58:16

Has anyone managed to get NX/freenx running on CentOS 7 with Gnome3 already? I've been doing some testing and am almost there. The freenx server from Fedora 19 works like a charm and I can connect to the server. However, I've failed to get Gnome3 to start within an NX session. I was able to find out that for Fedora 17-19 it was necessary to modify the /etc/nxserver/node.conf file and append the Gnome session startup command:

COMMAND_START_GNOME=gnome-session --session=gnome-classic

nx seems to be ignoring this, however, because in the process list I see it's trying to start gnome-session without any parameters. Trying a custom desktop with NX also fails but I can't see why. Anyone been more successfull here?

A reply to myself: the startup command needs apostrophes to work…

COMMAND_START_GNOME='gnome-session --session=gnome-classic'

With that I can see the correct startup command in the process list. However, all I get is a grey "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" screen but still no Gnome3 session. This goes for both, gnome-classic and gnome-fallback

Hi,

afaik, there is a problem getting remote sessions running with gnome3.
this seems to be related to the required hardware acceleraton of gnome3
even nomachine is working on a fix for that.

to get remote session to rhel7/centos7 you need to choose another Window Manager like Mate or xfce4

where did you get the freenx packages for centos7 from ?
i couldn't find them in epel repository until now.

Regards
Frank
