Installation of CentOS7 over 6.5

Post by Truman » 2014/07/10 10:08:11

Hi all,

I'm a noob in case of Linux systems, I'm using centOS on LTO backup machine, all I know is how to copy files into LTO tape.
How can I update centOS 6.5 to 7 without any data loss (I have 7TB of data on RAID hard drives, so making a backup is a bit of problem)

cheers.
P.

You cannot do so at this time as the packages available from Redhat to do so are still in testing for CentOS. Even once they are tested and available, it is unclear exactly how well they will work and a backup is most definitely advised.

Do you need to update anyway? CentOS 6 is supported until 2020.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

thanks for info.

There is no need to do an update, but I thought that it will come with some improvements, that there will be Mac OSX HFS+ formated drives >3GB support, and that I will be able to copy 300 000 files at once...
