ext3 filesystem issues

Post by Delevi » 2007/09/12 19:16:21

Hello All:

I have several (>100) machines running CentOS 4 on various dell server models, typically in the poweredge 800 series, all with SCSI or SAS raid 1 configurations.
From time to time (approx. once a month) I will find that a machine has failed, with some kind of filesystem related error.

I may receive "journal aborted" errors in /var/log/messages and whatever filesystem is affected will go readonly until such time as I reboot it and fsck it.
Also, on random intervals, machines will show up with filesystem errrors on reboot, which, while they are usually fixable, the fixes can take hours.

In some scenarios, the errors manifest themselves during operation, and others upon a reboot (clean or unclean). I cannot yet determine any form of pattern.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing these errors? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Delevi
