Recompile source and generate a new server cd

Hi,
Can guy give some suggestion for recompile source and generate a new server cd? I know that you can make a live cd and a server cd, but I'm interested in generate a customized cd which contains only some applications like dhcp and iptables.

Thanks for your reply. I known the lfs processing steps and try to do it, but it's very slowly to done a complete cycle in my pc, so, I try to find a new way to do the same thing, maybe we can only copy some compiled binary file to destination system, but I don't know how to generate a new kernel to destination system, which subsystem we need choice in new kernel compiling. Can any guys give me some hint in gernate live cd's kernel or a complete configuration for live cd's kernel?
