Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
Hi all,
I am installing CentOS on z/VM (not Hercules). I have the distribution file centos-4.5-s390x-dvd in a Windows folder.
I got to the point where I login to the Linux virtual machine from Windows. I choose the "Installing via FTP" option after starting an FTP server in Windows. However, the installation program attempts to transfer the stage2.img from a "disc1" folder which does not occur in the folder structure of my s390x-dvd directory.
What am I doing wrong?

Not sure but your problem might be related to the bug reported in:

Re: Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
There seems to be a patch. Can it be applied in s390x? It also seems that the problem doesn't occur in 4.4. So I tried to download 4.4 from vault.centos but the torrent never gets downloaded, even after hours of waiting...
Re: Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
The easiest remedy is to boot from boot.iso instead of CD1 as stated in the bug report. And yes, 4.4 does not have this bug.

Re: Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
The problem is that this Linux distribution runs on an IBM mainframe under z/VM. I do not boot from a CD but from a virtual reader to which the initial installation images have been transferred. As to boot.iso, I do not find it in this distro. I tried to download (unsuccessfully until now) centos-4.4-s390x which I find on vault.centos. Not enough peers I guess.
Re: Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
Any chance you can have the DVD tree on a Unix/Linux machine? I believe NFS install would work but not ftp or http (unconfirmed though). Or else, ask CentOS if they can provide you with the iso for 4.4-s390x. Try the centos-devel mail list?

Re: Install CentOS 4 on z/VM
I installed the Allegro NFS server for Windows and was able to do the CentOS 4.5 install using the NFS option.
Thanks for your suggestion.
