Hi. I am going to install a 86_64 version of CentOS 4.4 on my second
harddrive to dual boot with WinXP on my primary HD.
I have heard of some other versions of Linux that can damage the boot sector.
Have you heard of this happening with CentOS?

Here are my hardware specs:

Motherboard: K8NF4G-SATA2 1.00 (Socket 754)

Processor: Sempron 3000+ 1800MHz (L1 cache: 64.0 Kb,
L2 cache: 128.0 Kb, L3 cache: 0 Kb) Ext.clock: 200 MHz

Bios: AMIBIOS 080012 (03-Nov-2005)

Memory: 960 Mb (982 256 Kb)
DIMM0: 512 Mb(ECC,DIMM,5 ns) DIMM1: 512 Mb(ECC,DIMM,5 ns)

Oper. system: Windows XP Home Edition Swedish 5.1 (build 2600 Service Pack 2)

Harddisc: 2 x Maxtor 6L200P0

DVDRW: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162C (D:)

TKS for any response :-D

I have never had any problems with CentOS. I use ntldr to dual boot.

I also don't use linux fdisk. I create partitions in Windows then:

Use Manually Partition with Disk Druid and then just format the partitions.
Check Configure advanced boot loader options.
Check First sector of boot partition.

After install keep cd/dvd in, boot into rescue mode,
mount a floppy, and copy the boot sector:

dd if=/dev/sd?? of=/media/floppy/linux.bin bs=512 count=1

?? = boot partition

Then you can tell ntldr to boot it. I just tried this with Ubuntu 6.06 alternate-cd
and it messed up the mbr. lol
