This should do the trick:

yum -y install php-gd

It just occured to me that since you're using php 4.4.1, you may not be using a yum. Are you?

If that above doesn't ork for you, let me know how you got php installed in the first place and I'll be able to give you more info on how to enable php's gd libraries.

ok, well i don't use centos, but we got a VPS that's based on centos, so i got to take care of it.
i have the same problem.. no gd, so i've tried as you said: yum -y install php-gd and look what i got:
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
Reading repository metadata in from local files
Excluding Packages in global exclude list
Finished
Parsing package install arguments
No Match for argument: php-gd
Nothing to do
I thought that maybe the repositories would be to blame, but they've worked till now, i had the MC installed.
this is what lies in /etc//etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem. Yum shows nothing. I installed php via the sources I guess. Is there a way to isntall GD without recompiling php?
I've read about several problems with this module...

best,
Carla
