directory group rights cannot execute

Post by breezybadger » 2006/08/31 09:56:52

Hi,

I've never seen this, it's astonishing.

I've got a directory which has a group owner...all is normal...
The members of the group cannot access this directory : "permission denied"
Only the owner and root can access...and the members of the group are recognized as "others".
I can make a chmod 777 on the directory but it doesn't correct the disfunction.

I've looked in /var/log/messages, nothing is detected.

That's very interesting but i really don't see where it can come from.

Do they have access to that directory's parents?

Did you use -R option for recursive change of permitions?

ls -l on folder and contents will help...

Is the filesystem that is NFS mounted? If so, check the permissions on the mount point. You'll have to unmount the filesystem in order to check them.

Thanks for your help everybody !

The problem is solved : i had a conflict of two existing groups with differents GIDs but the same name.

I thought it was really a centos failure but it was my failure.

Anyway thanks for your help.
