Server Slow down

Hello all,

I have 2 CentOS 4 virtual servers running on a box [ physical machine ] that is hosting 3 other Linux VMs. Intermittently, only the 2 CentOS VMs will be slow down so much that they become inaccessible. 2 or 3 minutes later, they are fine as if nothing has happened. I am not very experienced in Linux so my questions are :

1. What could be causing the slow down of those machines given that this started about a month ago without any changes, hardware or software, to them.

2. I tried inspecting the system log file but for the life of me I couldn't find it. Where is the system log file located in CentOS install. I don't have X server running so I am using the command line.

Thx for all the help in advance

On a standard CentOS system, the log files can be found in the /var/log/ directory.

Alan,

Thanks for the response. I couldn't find anything in log that points to the reason behind the slow down.
Any idea why the server would slow down intermittently ?

Thanks

Sorry, but from the information available, I have absolutely no idea.

Perhaps precise details of the hardware, some information about the other VMs running on that hardware and the virtualisation software you are using may enable others to make some suggestions . . .
