Hi All,
I've installed the VMware server on two other boxes (both Dell) without incident - very simple.
However, I cant get it to work on my HP DL140 box.
The successful installs were done a while back with the host OS as CentOS 4.3.
For the HP I just installed, I used CentOS 4.4, and I've installed the same as a guest OS.
The guest OS installs and runs fine, but has no networking functionality. It's set up in "bridged" mode.
I'm wondering if the issue is with CentOS 4.4, or the hardware in the HP since these are the two changes.

Have you installed vmware tools? (for the guest)
Re: CentOS 4.4 / HP DL140R / No Guest Networking
man... this was an unusual case...
somehow the physical network cable that was connected to the server had been moved at the switch end of the connection. The port that it had been moved to was designated a printer port and therefore would allow only 1 IP to be bound to that port...
Finally figured this out by seeing ARP traffic in the guest OS which proved the VM was bridged to the host correctly, but unable to get an IP.
I'm gonna PLONK whoever moved that cable... :-x
