Very strange: Video drops out on any use of browser or up2date

Post by Ricky_O » 2007/03/08 04:23:40

I'm posting this here because it appears the problem only happens when I use a service or app that goes out to the Internet.
It's a new install. Fresh install (I'm well practiced at that now.....).
All seems to be running well, until I use the browser (and only when it goes out over the wire to the Internet; or, if I use up2date for an update. Shortly after I click to go ahead with the update, the screen locks with either an all white screen or a locked pattern that looks like an old television set in the 50's and 60's when the vertical hold failed. (But it locks solid.)

Obviously, at least to me, it's something in the network calls, and my guess is that it might be overwriting video memory.
How do I confirm or disconfirm; or better yet, find out what's going wrong.
