[RESOLVED] Centos 4.8 HP MSA500 G2

Post by vmistry » 2010/04/16 15:52:46

Hi,

We have install Centos 4.8 2.6.9-89.0.23.plus.c4smp on HP DL360 G4 Server and connected to HP MSA500 G2 Array with Smart Array 642 HBA. The server is not detecting the Logical Volume which we configured in MSA500 G2. do i need to install any special drivers or utility to make this work ?

Thanks & Best Regards
Vipul

Welcome to the CentOS fora. The following reading is recommended for new users:

How to provide information about your system

HP does supply RHEL 4 drivers, but it is not clear how you could have created logical volumes if the drivers were not working in the first place. Perhaps you could show us "./getinfo.sh disk" output after reading the links above.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply & sorry for not providing the system information earlier. please see the attached file for the system information.

From the link provided by you i am able to install the driver for CentOS 4.8 but the Logical Drive are not visible to the system. The HP MSA 500 G2 is connected to 4 servers over the scsi interface 3 Windows 2003 servers and 1 CentOS 4.8. created Logical Drive of 100GB with RAID 5 from one of the Windows Server. Selective Storage Presentation is enabled on MSA 500 G2 and access to newly created Logical Drive is given to the CentOS 4.8 server still the Logical Drive are not shown to the system. am i missing any step to configure ?

Thanks & Best Regards
Vipul

The forum attachment function is broken. You did the right thing (except forgetting
...
tags. :-) and apparently running "./getinfo.sh" rather than "./getinfo.sh disk" - but that just gives us extra info.)

Among other things, the output tells me the script needs to be modified to detect CentOS 4 and act differently, but not your problem.

So, apparently /dev/cciss/c1d0p1 is from the Compaq Computer Corporation Smart Array 64xx. No other disk devices show up, except the 146.8 GB one, but you mention a 100GB "logical drive". Do you mean RAID device? What other devices, and of what size, are you missing? I don't have a clue about what effect creating a RAID or "logical drive" from Windows has on CentOS seeing it, but perhaps someone else does.

Hi,

The drive 146 GB which the server log shows is the RAID 1 of two 146 GB Drive connected to the embeded Smart Array 6i controller. The missing drive is from MSA 500 G2 which is connected to server through Smart Array 642 HBA.

Seems like an HP problem, not a CentOS problem, if their driver loaded and is not seeing the volume.
