Installing Centos 4 on Sun Ultra 20

Post by Azrial » 2008/02/06 01:06:09

Hi

I have just downloaded Centos 4.6 and I am trying to install it onto a Sun Ultra 20 workstation.

I don't get very far into just the loading of the install program when the installer hangs. The installer is just saying "Loading sata_nv driver" and doesn't progress from there.

Does anyone have any experience installing Centos onto this hardware or advice on what I can do to get the install moving

Erm.. do you mean CentOS 4.2 beta? It is possible that CentOS-4 may not have the appropriate driver for your sata/controller. CentOS-5 for sparc is in the works, but I understand there is some problem with anaconda that is causing a delay in its release. Or you could try aurora just to see if it installs.

No I mean CentOS 4.6

The Ultra 20 is an Opteron X86 machine not SPARC.

I've tried both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version and they both get stuck at the sata_nv driver stage
