CentOSv.4 installation on a Dell Poweredge 2950

Post by ashley100 » 2007/12/18 07:39:33

Hi and thanks for reading my first post.

I'll get to the point!

I'm about to install CentOS v4 on our office server, a Dell Poweredge 2950 that we recently purchased. The HDs are being ordered but I'm worried about getting the correct disks that are fully compatible with the CentOS v4 install.

Dual Core Intel® Xeon® 5110, 4MB Cache, 1.60GHz, 1066MHz FSB
SAS 6/iR Integrated Controller Card for SATA and SAS Hard Drives, x4 Backplane (RAID 0,1 support)
750GB, SATA, 3.5-inch, 7200 rpm Hard Drive(hot plug)

Will CentOS v4 work with this hardware configuration? The server will be used for uploading video content to a website.

I have read some posts through this forum with users having a little difficulty on some setups, so I just want to look ahead before it's too late!

Thanks for anyone's help on this. :-)

Those machines usually run without problems.

Also you have the driver on Dell web site. In case it is not already included.

I'm using a program that demands CentOS 4.2, unfortunately, it doesn't provide driver for the perc 6/i raid controller, which rendered my raid hdd arrays undetectable during installation...

i've tried many drivers downloaded from the web, but they seems not working.

i wonder if anyone knows the solution.
