Compatible IDE CDRW for Centos 4.2

Post by DJH584 » 2005/10/24 14:16:36

My current CDRW is a Samsung SC 148F which, I have discovered, is shown as being a device in the blackmail list and will only work as a CDROM.
I have searched all over this forum to try and find recommendations for a suitable IDE CDRW device for my set up using Centos 4.2

I did find the Red Hat HCL link elsewhere but any search in that list for Samsung devices was fruitless.

So, before I go out and buy a new CDRW with the offchance that it might not be compatible with Cebtos 4.2,
can any forum member recommend to me a suitable IDE CDRW to use with Centos 4.2 so that I can just swap it out
with the SC 148F, reboot the machine and then burn CDR's to my heart's content ?

Thanks in advance.

David

Thanks very much for that information.
I'll search that out on the net.
Would you, per chance, happen to know the model number?

So far it has been the most reliable burner I have owned, and the cheapest. Got the same model in both of my machines.
Previously tried various Phillips, Plextor and Sony (rebadged Lite-On) models and none of them lasted very long before they started having read/write errors.

Well the CDRW finally arrived yesterday and was duly installed.
Although I ordered the 8526 model, the company sent me the 8527 and that works beautifully with K3b.

Ebbrell - thanks again for suggestion.

My regards

Glad you are back in business. :-D

The new model is probably a firmware update.

best wishes, Steve...
