Random freeze computer (urgent)

Post by igod » 2005/08/01 18:26:58

Hi all,

I have 2 IBM PIV 2.4 Ghz with 40Gb IDE HDD, and all two have the same problem with centos 4.1

Randomly and when load average is high, computer seems to freeze and work very slow.

With redhat 9 (kernel 2.4) I don't have any problem, but with centos (kernel 2.6) this problem occurs.

Anyone could help-me with some solutions directions? Could be DMA or UDMA ? If so, how can I disable it on grub ?

You may need to download or burn a new copy of CentOS, because it seems to be not having a clean install. let me know how that works for you. Kaleb

Does your processor have hyper-threading? (HT) - We disabled HT in the bios and the machine stopped abending.
Intel 865 mother board D865GLCLK -

We just discoverd a problem with CD-ROM support;

Can mount DVD/CD-ROM without a problem BUT when you put a blank DVD/CDROM in you can not mount the device.
Tried four different drives, they all mount DVD/CDROM's that have data but blanks fails.

I have setup CentOS 4.2 a few days ago at a DELL PE2850 machien with 2 x Xeon 2.8 (HT + EM64T),2G RAM, PERC4Di RAID with 3 x 73G SCSI harddisk and I don't see any problem with it . So I think it is not related to HT.
