IA-32 EL- How do I run Linux and / or Windows x86 binaries o

Post by starguy » 2009/04/04 19:28:28

I have a Centos 4 Itanium 2 1.3 server, and I would like to run Game servers on it.

These come as both Linux x86 binaries, or Windows x86 binaries, you have your choice.

LINUX

Supposedly Redhat/Centos has something built in called IA-32 Execution Layer which can do this.

But how do I execute an x86 Linux binary on a Centos IA64 command line - is there a command I have to call and pass it the binary name?

If I just try and launch the x86 linux executable on the command line like I do on a non-Itanium server, I get the error: "cannot execute binary file"

WINDOWS

Is WINE ( http:/winehq.com ) available on Centos, for executing Windows x86 binaries? I tried to install it with "yum install wine*" but was not successful using Yum

yum install wine*

As far as I can determine CentOS does not have a rebuild of the Red Hat extras package for ia32el

http://www.redhat.com/f/pdf/rhel4/AppCompat.pdf

nor do 3rd party repos have an IA64 wine. Seems it is doable as Ubuntu has

Sorry - not much help. IA64 seems to be an evolutionary dead-end.
