Ex-Debianite w/ yum sources and other plugins questions

Post by madmac63 » 2005/07/15 21:53:58

Team:

I've been using Debian for the past few years and am now needing to move to a Red Hat based distro for professional reasons. I downloaded and installed CentOS. Very nicely done.

I used the advice in this forum to get java installed for mozilla and firefox. That was OK. No yum involved.

I'd like to know what the issues are in adding/defining additional yum sources. People mention Dag Weeirs site as a good source for additional packages not included in the standard CentOS/Upstream Provider library. Is there a file on his site somewhere that I can download and toss into yum.repos.d, run a yum update, and then be able to search via yum search?

If so, what are the commonly needed/added repos and links to their yum config files?

Specifically, what's up with Macromedia Flash? Is that like java, and one needs to go to macromedia's site and downloand the rpm and install, or is it in one of the common repositories?

TIA

Dag's archive is probably all you'll need. Detailed setup instructions are available at his site:

If I recall correctly, if you install his apt rpm, it should do a lot of the configuration for you:

I doubt Macromedia allows anyone else to distribute it.

These instructions are for Fedora but they should work:
