External Repositories of RPM Packages for CentOS-4

Post by z00dax » 2005/03/09 00:09:08

Here are some names and repository details for external, non CentOS rpm package repository that has pkgs compatible with CentOS4.

Dag has a repository of addon packages, most desktop oriented pkgs are covered.
http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/ { Currently supports i386 and x86_64 }

( for people who are posting follow on messages about other repositories : it would be nice to have a brief idea of whats in the repository, along with what architectures it supports ( i386 , x86_64, IA64, ppc, s390 etc ) )

ivazquez and ivazquez-alternatives repositories

Post by ignacio » 2005/03/09 01:13:25

I have 2 i386-only repositories, one for packages that don't conflict with the core repos, and one for packages that do.

repo file (drop in /etc/yum.repos.d)

ivazquez Repository RPMs SRPMs RSS
ivazquez-alternatives Repository RPMs SRPMs RSS

Additionally, I have another directory that contains less-tested items.

Also, if you have a request for other packages that no one has just drop it in my bug tracker and I'll see what I can do.

Dries, also part of http://RPMforge.net/, has an online repository at : http://dries.ulyssis.org/ayo/ and there is a list of packages available at : http://dries.ulyssis.org/ayo/packages.html

From his website :
This is a small yum/apt repository with rpms for Fedora Core 1, 2 and 3 (x86), for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 (x86) and Aurora Linux 1.91 and 1.92 (sparc). The rpms for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and 4 (x86) also work without problems on CentOS which is a free compatible rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Alex Thimm runs ATrpms, http://atrpms.net.

From the site :
This is a 3rd party rpm repository. The original focus laid upon software used in natural sciences, especially in the field of high energy physics, e.g. tools for numerical programming or such for scientific publications. But since then this repository has included many non-scientific software titles, like system tools or multimedia packages, resulting in a far more generic repository.
Install instructions are avilable here, and a list of packages for EL4 are available here.

Well, don't forget the kde-redhat project. For GPG,

rpm --import http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/gpg-pubkey-ff6382fa-3e1ab2ca

If one uses apt/synaptic,

rpm http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat redhat/el4/i386 stable
rpm http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat all stable
rpm http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/fedora redhat/el4/i386 stable
rpm http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/fedora all stable

If one uses yum,

[kde-redhat-kde-stable]
name=kde-redhat.org (kde-stable)
baseurl=http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/redhat/$releasever/stable

[kde-redhat-kde-stable-all]
name=kde-redhat.org (kde-stable-all)
baseurl=http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/all/stable

[kde-redhat-fedora-stable]
name=kde-redhat.org (kde-stable)
baseurl=http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/fedora/redhat/$releasever/stable

[kde-redhat-fedora-stable-all]
name=kde-redhat.org (kde-stable-all)
baseurl=http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/fedora/all/stable

For the past few years, I have not had any trouble with kde-redhat stuff. (I have used redhat 8, 9, fedora 1, 2, 3, scientific linux 3, and recently centos 4). Your experience might be different... (I guess when using home-made rpms, we should use with our own assumed risk...)

I am building Fedora Extras packages for CentOS4,
for i386 : RPMS , SRPMS

To use the repository, download kbsingh-CentOS-Extras.repo and drop it in /etc/yum.repos.d/. The GPG Key is automatically downloaded and installed.

More details at http://centos.karan.org/

Only i386 branch is availabl at this moment, I hope to have x86_64 and ppc builds online soon.
