Installed CENTOS 4 on two machines, yum update works on one,

Post by bgarlock » 2005/03/22 20:03:41

This is strange. I imported the GPG key, like the instructions on the website say, and on one machine, when I did a 'yum update' all went well. On another machhine, I get this error:

[root@localhost ~]# yum update
Setting up Update Process
Setting up Repos
addons 100% |=========================| 951 B 00:00
http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os/i386/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: HTTP Error 400: Bad Request
Trying other mirror.
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: base
failure: repodata/repomd.xml from base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
[root@localhost ~]#

Why would it work fine on one install, and not the other? Both were fresh installs, and I chose to install everything on both machines.

Thanks for any help,

Bruce

The strange thing, is that up2date works fine, and I can get updates that way. Why is yum doing this? I removed yum, and re-installed, and this did not help.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Is there any way to get more verbose information from the error?

Just an FYI. I had this same thing. Pulled hair out for a awhile till I figured out I could not ping anything outside the box. I had the network setup wrong. Fixed that and all is well now.
