Backspace Key Problem

Post by hacksaw105 » 2005/03/07 21:53:04

Hi, I recently upgraded from Centos 3.4 to Centos 4, and the backspace key no longer works properly
at the command shell.
When I try to type a backspace, all i get is this: ^?
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
I am completely stumped on this one.

I Figured it out. It is a problem with the bashrc file.
The bashrc for Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 must be messed up.
I just copied the bashrc from fedora core 3 machine, to the centos 4 machine. Works perfectly now.
My guess is that the bashrc in fedora core 3 contains code to properly map the backspace key at the bash shell prompt.
Anyway someone might want to take a look at the centos 4 bashrc file.

I have included the fedora core 3 bashrc file, in case anyone else wants a fix for the backspace key problem,
at the command shell.

Just replace /etc/bashrc file with this one.

This didn't fix it for me. I looked at the diff between C4 and FC3 and there wasn't anything related to backspace.
