Setting up Yum

Post by meekrob » 2005/03/06 19:31:01

Hi,

I'm new to Centos and Redhat. What do I need to do to start using yum to update my system?

Are there any specific yum repositories for CentOS?

When I try to update yum I get the following:

[root@localhost ~]# yum update

Setting up Repos
contrib 100% |=========================| 328 B 00:00
//var/cache/yum/contrib/repomd.xml:1: parser error : Space required after the Public Identifier

^
//var/cache/yum/contrib/repomd.xml:1: parser error : SystemLiteral " or ' expected

^
//var/cache/yum/contrib/repomd.xml:1: parser error : SYSTEM or PUBLIC, the URI is missing

^
Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: contrib
Error importing repomd.xml from contrib: Error: could not parse file //var/cache/yum/contrib/repomd.xml

I'm getting the exact same error on my system. It was installed with 4.0rc1 and I installed the GPG key using:
rpm --import /usr/share/doc/centos-release-4.0beta/RPM-GPG-KEY
Me too. Maybe we should try installing the key from the cd ...

I'm downloading 4.0 now, maybe that will work.

Sorry, I meant install from the web. I need coffee ...

I tried:

rpm --import http://mirror.centos.org/centos/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-4

with the same result.

Got this from the mailing list:
[root@localhost ~]# rpm -Fvh http://mirror.centos.org/centos/4/os/i386/CentOS/RPMS/centos-release-4-0.1.i386.rpm
Works for me after that...

Cool. I downloaded 4.0, reinstalled and now it works!
