I have Centos 5.5 i386 and trying to upgrade the kernel to Centos 6.5 i386 for development and testing purpose. Configured YUM repository with the Centos 6.5 DVD ISO. While trying to use "yum update kernel", it list out lots of dependencies that cannot be resolvable. Is it possible to upgrade the version to 6.5? If so, please post the step by step process of doing the upgrade.

thanks
VJ

It's not possible. The upgrade path from 5.x to 6.x is to backup, reinstall and restore your data and reconfigure the apps.

No but you should update to CentOS 5.10.

Hi Drk,

If I upgrade to Centos 5.10 from Centos 5.5, then Can I upgrade to Centos 6.5? The current file system is ext3. If I upgrade to Centos 5.10 with ext3 file system, can I upgrade to Centos 6.5 and the file system to ext4?

thanks
VJ

No, you cannot do an in-place upgrade from 5.x to 6.x as was pointed out before. You have to install 6.x. But by updating to 5.10, you can make your system up to date as far as the security issue (or bug fix) is concerned.
