Oracle 10g on Centos5 running on i386

Post by dalhothi » 2009/09/30 20:32:24

I want to install oracle 10g on my PC running Centos5. Which Oracle server version do I need?

I can't see a version on the Oracle website that supports linux on i386. Do I use the linux i86 version?

Thanks

you can use the express edition 10g or 11g

Mine is i386. I have 9iR2 - 11GR2 on it. You can look up for a number of installation instructions from http://oracle-base.com/

I assume when you say 10g you're thinking 10g database. Bare in mind that Oracle has a lot of "10g" products.

Go here ...
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201linuxsoft.html

-- Accept license agreement
-- Download 10201_database_linux32.zip

You probably want to follow documentation on how to do it properly so here is documentation page
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/homepage
Look at the right side and under "Installation Guides" you'll see "Database Installation Guide for Linux x86". Download .pdf or read it online.

Oracle officially doesn't support their products on Centos, but don't worry. Just follow instructions for RedHat4 and you'll be fine. To make your life easier download Centos 4.8 since it's related to RedHat 4.

Have fun!!
