New install hangs

Post by addr1 » 2011/03/31 20:28:56

Hi,
I am trying to use the net install method to get a fairly lightweight Centos (I like PekWm).

So I am using textmode and all goes well until the actual selected software installation screen where it hangs.

I have googled and found similar problems reported in the past but nothing recent.

x86_64 using ext3.

New install hangs

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Reading FAQ & Readme First is recommended for new users.

Netinstalls are very unreliable, except using a local mirror on your own network, unless you have a pretty much perfect broadband connection. Best bet is to grab the DVD ISO but if that is for some reason not an option, then for a very minimal install you can get by with just CD#1 if you un-select everything including base. You can then add packages or groups with yum after the install, but it can be a bit tricky if you are not experienced.
