CentOS 5 for IBM POWER5?

Post by djbrennan » 2010/11/23 20:25:20

Is there a port of CentOS 5 to ppc64 or IBM POWER5 architecture? I need to load linux on a IBM p570 and would really like to use CentOS. I haven't been able to find ppc isos anywhere. Any help is appreciated.

Hello and welcome to CentOS fora.

All relevant information I could find is in the following link:
CentOS 5 ppc

Note, that the most relevant post (by the powers that be) is in the last post.
However, I couldn't find anything about development of CentOS 5 PPC being dropped...

Maybe you should post your question on the centos-devel mailing list - where "the powers that be" dwell ;-)
'cause they rarely visit the fora.

CentOS 5 for IBM POWER5?

It is easy enough to do, and Arrafab has a ports library. I run a later Fedora variant as a labor of love

Linux localhost.localdomain #1 Thu Feb 11 06:53:23 UTC 2010 ppc ppc ppc GNU/Linux

but really the issue is can we sustain this for a full seven year lifecycle. It is worth the mirror space? Same problems with building the Sparc 64, IBM s390x (also very nice), Alpha, MIPS arches

IBM's Power 7 is quite pleasant and perhaps there is more future there.

We are coming into the US but send an email to:

herrold centos org

and I'll sort it once I recover from Turkey OD ;)
