recursive update error

Post by edfix » 2010/09/30 16:05:09

I got a package update notification for some perl compress packages:

perl-Compress-Raw-Zlib-2.030-1.el5.rf.x86_64 updates perl-Compress-Raw-Zlib-2.024-1.el5.rf.x86_64
perl-Compress-Raw-Bzip2-2.031-1.el5.rf.x86_64 updates perl-Compress-Raw-Bzip2-2.024-1.el5.rf.x86_64
perl-IO-Compress-2.030-1.el5.rf.noarch updates perl-IO-Compress-2.024-1.el5.rf.noarch

When I tried to install the updates, I got the following errors:

Missing Dependency: perl(Compress::Raw::Zlib) = 2.024 is needed by package perl-IO-Compress-2.030-1.el5.rf.noarch (rpmforge)
Missing Dependency: perl(Compress::Raw::Bzip2) = 2.024 is needed by package perl-IO-Compress-2.030-1.el5.rf.noarch (rpmforge)

Apparently the new IO Compress needs the old Zlib and Bzip versions, but those two are updated at the same time.

For now, I'm not updating either. What do I need to do?

My system info is at:

Welcome to the CentOS fora.

The recommended reading for all new members is the FAQ & Readme First.

With regard to your query, as those problematic packages originate from the RPMforge Repository, you should report the issue on the RPMforge users' mailing list.

Having reviewed your system information, the only comment I shall make is that you have not given explicit priorities for some of the third party repositories -- hence they will default to a priority of 99. That may -- or may not -- be exactly what you intended to do.
