Post by sniperscope » 2011/03/17 03:17:53

Dear all
I just bought two server machine and now i want to install centOS but not sure which do i have to pick.
I visited download areas and seems all available releases looks like same to me but size.

What are them difference? one is 658mb while other 652mb another 661mb.

Could some one help me to pick correct release. I want to install 64bit edition.

From now on, i will be here for a long time. And i may(probably will) ask a lot of questions.
Sorry for future disturbance from now.

Hi current release of CentOS is 5.5 with 5.6/6.0 coming soon.

To install 64-bit version you need 64-bit processor (Most of the recent CPU are)

You can start reading documentation...

Installation docs are here

Good luck...

Welcome to the CentOS fora. Reading FAQ & Readme First is recommended for new users.

The 5.5 x86_64 DVD #1 would be my recommendation. The second one is only needed for OOo language packs. It can be downloaded with BitTorrent or via a direct download from a selected subset of the mirror sites. See the appropriately labeled column from that link to determine which.
