OS Crashed on VPS server
OS Crashed on VPS server
Hi
We are using centos 5 on our server to sell VPS accounts with the help of Hypervm. But now, suddenly the OS crashed. What is the way to restore the server or atleast save accounts and/or their sites?
Please, it is so important to save data this time.

Welcome to CentOS.

"Crashed" is not a helpful description.
Did you try re-booting?

Of course i have tried rebooting, but rebooting caused the OS not to start up again.

A smart question will be more likely to get good answers. You have provided very little information, and so will find very little help forthcoming. Tell us exactly what you see when the boot fails. Try booting from the installation media in rescue mode, or from the CentOS LiveCD. Show the information from How to provide information about your system.
Re: OS Crashed on VPS server
What were you doing before this happened? Did this happen out of the blue? did you update anything and then it crashed? Remember to Uname/getinfo.sh and screen shot what is going on. Obviously if you can't get the OS to load period then this wouldn't be possible anyways(Read above post for live CD rescue). You can always take a photo with your camera if you get a stack dump. If you can't even get the OS to load period, it could be hardware related. In which case start with the most obvious first \. . . , Power supply, Harddrive, memory re-set your connections/break out the multi-meter check the motherboard, UPS (sounds lame but I have had a UPS bios interfere with booting USB specifically) Most of the time it's something small. Just be methodical in your approach and you should find the problem in no time.
You can turn devices off in your BIOS on boot to check if they are causing interference.
Alternatively you can save your data most of the time by slaving the drive on another system and extracting w/e it is you need. Which leads me to my next point.
If this data was so important why weren't there backups made anyways? >.>
Google fu is your friend!
Good luck

Thanks for sharing those information.
My system crashed as well, I'm kind of crazy trying to fix the problem on my VPS.
