Newbie switching from Windows

Post by lschafroth » 2008/10/12 04:00:45

I currently run a windows based setup with Hosting Controller HC7 for my control panel.

I have decided to switch to a Linux environment. I have chosen CentOS 5.2 with ISPConfig.

I have two sites that are currently using Snitz ASP based forums. They use Access Databases. I've tried in the past to convert them to phpBB but could never get it to work.

I'm looking for help installing this as a webhosting server and I would like to have ASP and ASP.net support if possible. I've seen Mono, but it states it is no longer supported for Red Hat platforms.

I am looking for any help you can provide.

Thanks!

Lannie

PS I want a good looking control panel that is free or very reasonably priced for Linux and really need a billing function as well. Is ISPconfig the right choice?

At a minimum, does anyone have a good way of converting a site from snitz to phpbb?

If I did this, I could get rid of ASP all together.

These forums deal with CentOS-related/specific questions, and it is possible that not many (or any) of us are familiar with the subject you are asking about. Have you tried the phpBB forums at http://www.phpbb.com/support/forums/ ? You may have a better chance there.

My primary question in the post was Centos installation and ISPconfig help.

phpbb was a side note. :)

ISPconfig is also not a CentOS product.
I also could not find it on RPMForge.

Did you read these links before posting?

I guess I assumed that installing CentOS as a web hosting system that this "WEBHOSTING" group would have been a good choice.

Anyway, I got the server installed with no problems at all thanks to the howtoforge guide on building the perfect server.

ISPconfig installed without a hitch.

The only thing I cannot figure out is the mod_mono. Some guides show you have to compile it from source, some say do a wget and manually install it, some say use yum install mod_mono.

I did the yum and it downloaded it and it is a module shown for apache.

How do I add it so it is an option for ISPconfig? (I know, wrong forums)

PS So far Centos is very nice. I've tried ubuntu, OpenSuse, Mandrake and all of them corrupted themselves on the first update to the system. Centos did it flawlessly. GOOD WORK!
