rpc_pipefs and nfsd automounts do not mount

Post by hwal » 2017/09/18 10:23:33

All,

I've got an odd problem. Mounts

Code: Select all

nfsd on /proc/fs/nfsd type nfsd (rw)
sunrpc on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw)
do not mount automatically, but have to be manually mounted. I'm not quite sure at which point this has begun, but I'm quite sure it is only matter of weeks. Thus an update is not likely to have caused this.

Due to these not mounting the rpc.idmapd does not start and thus no nfs-client can mount exports from this server. I've reinstalled nfs-utils, but that didn't help.

What could cause this and how to fix?

Please note that the answer "Centos 5.x is outdated, upgrade to X" is totally valid but not feasible in this case.

Replying to myself if somebody else should have the same problem.

The issue was that file /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf.dist was missing from the disk. I just reinstalled the package and that solved the problem. Why the file was missing is still a mystery.
