virt-install: ERROR Host does not support any virtualization

Post by morrison71 » 2013/11/04 19:29:06

Hello guys!

First of all sorry about my english.

I am using KVM to virtualizate. But when i run the "virt-install" command, it shows the next error:
ERROR Host does not support any virtualization options.

My server had virtualisation extensions enabled in the bios.

It is my firts time using it, so i don´t know too much.
Can you help me?

Thanks in advance!

In order to use KVM you will need to have virtualization enabled in the BIOS and you will need a processor that supports the VT extensions. Try

Code: Select all

grep --color -E "vmx|svm" /proc/cpuinfo
That should show you if the o/s thinks you have vmx (Intel) or svm (AMD) extensions enabled. If it doesn't show, then please post the exact model of processor you are using.
CentOS 6 will die in November 2020 - migrate sooner rather than later!

CentOS 5 is dead, do not use it.

If you run (as root) `lsmod | grep kvm` does it show anything?

As root, run `modprobe kvm-intel` then try your virt-install

I want to thank you. Finally the error was we were using epel and centos as repositories and they were mixed. I did a fresh install on the server and now i can use the virt-install command.

Thanks a lot again!
