Iwatch or Inotify installation help needed

Post by aaamin » 2013/10/22 20:34:01

Dear Friends

I have two question for you please:

1/ does IWatch work on CentOS 5.8? if yes, how?

2/ I have installed inotify-tools but I struggle using it because I can only monitor one directory and also I don't get any email alerts about changes made in that directory (i.e /etc) and I always have to use this command to check for changes:

cat /var/log/inotify.log

However I don't need both Iwatch and Inotify together but I am looking to get one of them that meets my full requirements which are: Monitoring all Folders and Files on my server And get Email alerts about the changes in real time.

I am sorry if I am asking for too much but I have been searching online for a few days and I have read quite several threads in this regards but I am still all struggling to figure out what I need to do.

I would appreciate anyone who can possibly try and help because I have already done my best to get it working but I am all lost.

Thank you.

Regards

I was wondering if someone can tell me if this is something that I can get help about here on this forum or I have posted it in the wrong forum.

Thank you.

Iwatch or Inotify installation help needed

Monitoring all files and directories might be a bit too much! I've not used iWatch or inotify-tools but have used lsyncd which performs a similar function and is fairly easy to set up. Not sure if it can send emails on changes but it's quite flexible and the manual is quite good with lots of examples.

Dear TrevorH

Thank you for your kind report.

To be honest I am after one that sends emails on changes in the system, nevertheless, I will have a look at the one you have mentioned as well and see if it needs my requirements.

Thank you.
