10/100 LAN PC Card support?

Post by solihullsys » 2007/05/04 08:56:22

I'm no Linux device hacker, so I'd appreciate any suggestions for a LAN PC Card 10/100 Ethernet adapter that works nicely with CentOS 5 on older laptops. I have an old tank-like IBM ThinkPad 600E that I'd love to use for a DNS server or something, but out of the box CentOS 5 doesn't seem to like my old 3COM Megahertz 10/100 574BT or any of my 2+ year old 802.11a/g PC Cards. Even went to CompUSA and bought a new Netgear 1G Ethernet PC Card, and it didn't recognize that.

If anyone is using a 10/100 PC Card in an older laptop with CentOS 5, I appreciate the leads!

You do not state which wireless devices you have so the best suggestion is to visit the ndiswapper and check;

http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/joomla/
Follow the Documents/Wiki --> List of cards known to work

if you find your wireless devices then install the rpmforge-release package; http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/FAQ.php#B

Then do: yum install dkms dkms-ndiswrapper

And use the advice from the ndiswrapper site Documents/Wiki --> Installation - Installation instructions to install the Windows driver starting from the Install Windows driver section.

As fas as the wired 10/100 pcmcia/cardbus cards check here;
