CentOS 5 is dead. Do not use it.

In addition, 5.5 is from March 2010 so is now close to 8 years old and has 8 years worth of security vulnerabilities. It should not be used.

If you absolutely must use CentOS 5 then at least point your yum repo files at vault.centos.org and update to 5.11 which is "only" one year out of date. It's still a dangerous operating system to use as it will not receive any more patches but at least you've got 7 years closer to being up to date!

Reinstall and use CentOS 7 which is maintained until 2024. Even CentOS 6 would be better as that still receives critical security updates for nearly another 3 years.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Just plug it in. It should work. If you need to change config options like "send a newline after reading the barcode", this can be changed by scanning a specific configuration barcode. See your barcode scanner's user manual for details.

This is not a CentOS issue at all. If you plug that scanner into a Windows computer and read the barcode into Notepad or something, you will notice that it does the same there. Either the barcode has been printed incorrectly or your barcode reader has been configured incorrectly. The barcode reader configuration is done with the barcode reader itself, it is not configured from the operating system.

Dear sir,
Greetings
We have checked with Windows 7 Bar code is QR code with Coupen code which generally comes in Alphanumeric upper and lower case. Kind of URL embedded in QR bar code.
It works OK with Windows 7 but with CentOS 5.5 it gives Improper URL issue after checking we found it is converting Lower case letter to Upper case and vise verse so please guide.
Note : It works ok with CentOS 6 version. But we have around 1000 terminal with CentOS 5.5 so need concrete solution for the same.

That's odd. See if it works any better with CentOS 5.11, the last version before CentOS 5 went End Of Life.

I am speechless. You have 1000 systems that are no longer receiving security updates and from the fact that they run 5.5 never have received security updates. That's incredibly irresponsible and needs to be changed ASAP. Patch stuff. Not every 5 years but as soon as the updates come out.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

Hi,

The issue is when we scan a QR barcode it which contains Alphanumeric coded data as shown below.

As seen the below in the underlined characters are changing from upper to lower or lower to upper case.

Original Data below.

IiIsIjkyIiwiQVBQUk9WRUQiLCI0NTQxOTgqKioqKio1MzU5IiwiWFhYWcisilMgVkvos0fuRVNiiejbQluilcjwSvnbiiw5ldUsIjk2NDk4nze2iiwwLCJQUk9DRVNTRUQiLCJJq0ldssBcqu5liiwiICAgICagicagiCAgICAgIiwiMDAwMDAwMDAwmdiwiiwyLDEsIkxPvkugq09nTvvosunBVElPTiIsikpbtkfLufvsssIsIk5FVyBERUxISSAgICBERUwgICAgICAgIiwiUGx1dHVzIHYyLjEyIE1UIElDSUNJIejbtksilDAyLCIiLCIiLCIiLciilciilCiilciiLcixmdaiLCIiLCIxMTIxMjaxnyisIjEyMTkwmiincg==

Barcode scanner scanned data (OutPut) on CentOS5.5 Notepad.

IiIsIjkyIiwiQvBQUk9WRUQiLCi0NTqxOTgqKioqKio1Mzu5IiwiWFhYWCIsilMgVkVOs0FUrVnIIEJBqluilcjwSvnbiiw5lDUsIjk2NDk4nze2iiwwLCJQUk9DRVNtruqilCJJQ0lDssbcqU5LIiwiICAgICagicagICAgIcagiiwiMDAwMdawmdAwMDIwIiwyLDEsIkxPVkugq09NTVVOSUNBVElPTiIsikpbtkFLUFVsssisIk5FVyBeruxiSSAgICBERUwgicagICAgIiwiUGx1dHVzIHYyljeyiE1UIElDSUNJiejbtksiLDAylciilCIiLCIiLCIiLCIiLCIiLCIilcixmDAiLCiilcixMTIxMjAxNyIsIjEyMTkwmiinCg==

Some of the Characters in the underlined string are changed from upper case to lower case and vice versa.

Perhaps it's a bug. Try with 5.11.
