cannot switch to terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F[1-6] in Cen

Post by hello-world » 2008/11/13 13:29:49

After I try to Install in CentOS 5.2 ( 2.6.18-92.1.18.el5) ATI drivers (ati-driver-installer-8-10-x86.x86_64.run) on my laptop (HP 6715s , CPU TL56, ATI x 1250), I cannot switch to terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F[1-5] . When I press Ctrl+Alt+F[1-5], I see only black screen. I cannot run: aticonfig --initial in terminal.

There are only 6 tty's running on CentOS by default and these are 1-6, and X runs on 7. So Ctrl-Alt-[F1-F6] will allow you to switch to a terminal, Ctrl-Alt-F8 will not (Alt-F7 switches back to X).

Maybe you can boot to init 3, run aticonfig --initial and boot back to init 5?

I try it in single mode. I see:
aticonfig: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

I solved ths problem

First: I compile (and install) all ati modules from source code -- not helped
Second:
I try ls -l /usr/lib/xorg/libGL.so.1
it was symbolic link on libGL.so.2, but libGL.so.2 not exists!
(I try delete it but not helped, X not booted after this)
I try:
yum whatprovides libGL.so.1

after this I download and reinstall(mesa-libGL.i386):
