HI
I'm using CentOS 5.4 in Dell Poweredge R310 server and now wants to upgrade it to CentOS 6.3.
can I upgrade to 6.3 on this Dell Server.
CentOS is not listed on the compatible OS list of Dell server on their site.
Please advise.
also if you can advise how to proceed with upgrade to 6.3 on this server - will be a great help.
Waiting for your reverts at the earliest..
Thanks.
upgrading Cent OS 5.4 to 6.3
Re: upgrading Cent OS 5.4 to 6.3
No, there is no upgrade path from one major version to another so you cannot update from 5.x to 6.x. You will ned to backup, reinstall and restore your data.
Second, 6.3 is already 4.5 years out of date and should not be used. It is full of really nasty security vulnerabilities and you should not use it. The current version is 6.7 plus assorted patches. Use that.

The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.
