Monitor Type: (autoconfigured)

Post by jorge.ramos.junior » 2015/11/06 13:35:31

Hi all,

I formatted my computer to install CentOS 5.11. Previously, the operational system Windows 7 have used the screen resolution was 1600x900.

After CentOS 5.11 installation the maximum resolution that I can configure is 1024x768.

I am using a software that requires a 1600x900 resolution.

I already did many tests and have tried some software configuration, but I believe that I need to install the correct video driver.

I would like to check if someone already had this type of issue and I would like to request help to solve this issue!

regards,
Jorge Ramos

If you are installing this on a home desktop to use as a workstation/desktop then I would suggest not using CentOS 5. It was released in 2007 and only has less than another 18 months of security updates left before it is orphaned. If your machine is old then perhaps CentOS 6 would be a better choice and if it's newer and has more resources then CentOS 7 would be an even better choice. CentOS 6 is supported until 2020 and CentOS 7 until 2024.

If those don't help or you cannot use anything other than CentOS 5 then post the output from lspci -nn | grep -i vga so we can identify the graphics chipset in use on the machine and suggest alternatives.
The future appears to be RHEL or Debian. I think I'm going Debian.

CentOS 5 and 6 are deadest, do not use them.

TrevorH,
Thanks your answer!
I do not have other choice because I am using a homologated software to run with CentOS 5.

Information about my hardware at this moment:
Notebook Dell Latitude E6420
Dock station
Monitor Dell P2213 (DVI cable connection)

I changed the hardware configuration and now with the listed hardware above I improve a little bit the resolution to 1280x1024.

Find below the output for the command requested:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09)

I don't think there is any support for those Intel graphics in CentOS 5, they were added to CentOS 6 but nothing much has been done to 5 for years.
