Hello All,

Sendmail takes too long to start and the host is unable to send emails, below are the steps followed, Please let me know if I'm missing anything, is there a debug mode for mailx?

Network delays are often due to DNS problems, or other things that have to wait for a timeout.

What you're seeing usually happens when the hostname is not fully qualified (eg. you set the hostname to something like [b]mailhost1[/b]). In such cases, I often experienced [b].localdomain.[/b] being appended to the end of the hostname and sendmail exhibiting the problems you're describing.

Didn't manage to get to the bottom of it (esp. the reason why that localdomain part gets appended - and this is usually visible from the headers of the e-mails returned), but I believe if you set your hostname to something like [b]mailhost1.local.[/b] should do the trick and eliminate the delays.

Having said that, it's clear I agree with [b]Phil's[/b] opinion on this matter.
