how do i look deeper into a PID??

Post by dreams3577 » 2011/07/15 15:39:05

Hi All

running ps -ef

I get a number of processes back.. lets take the one below..

apache 10862 2845 0 16:02 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/httpd

It is clearly a webpage that is being used..

How do I look deeper into the process '10862' and see what webpage is being used?

many thanks

For this particular example, use

service httpd fullstatus

You probably have to uncomment a section in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf that is commented out by default (hunt for server-status) before this will work.

I'm not sure if there's the possibility of Apache being unable to get status on a particular child process, race condition or otherwise spinning out of control, but you could use lsof -p 10862 to see what files/directories are open and maybe strace -fp 10862 to see what it's doing.
