Gnome, CentOS and VMWare. Configuring for XDMP usage

Post by nickorossa » 2008/05/06 18:54:46

Hi

I have VMWare running on my WindowsXP desktop. Under which are two VMWare images, both running CentOS 5. The images are running Gnome.

However xdmcp doesn't appear to be broadcasting or enabled to connect me to those images using XManager (www.netsarang.com) or XMing.

I have run gdmsetup and made some changes to allow remote connections; restarted gnome with gdm-restart, but without success.

I have disabled Windows firewall to ensure that is not getting in the way.

Any thoughts on how to solve this?

Thanks.

Nick.

How about firewall on the CentOS side? Is it enabled, and if so, did you open appropriate ports?

Hi

Good call. I didn't know it had one built in. Anyway I found the config tool for it and disabled it. My servers now show up in XBrowser and I can log in.

I'll mess around with the ports and renable the firewall.

Many thanks.

Nick.

Xmanager uses the ports listed below:

You should open the following TCP/UDP ports.

From remote host to local PC (Inbound):
- TCP 6000 ~ 6010 for Xmanager
- TCP 16001
*Note: Gnome may fail to login or logout if TCP 16001 port is not allowed.

From local PC to remote host (Outbound):
- UDP 177 for XDMCP
- TCP 512, 513, 514, 23, 22 for Xstart
